Frida Kahlo with Calla Lillies by Josefina Aguilar

Lovely Josefina statue of Frida Kahlo surrounded by calla lillies.  Josefina Aguilar is a world renowned Mexican folk artist from Ocotlan de Morelos, Oaxaca. She is best known for her small clay figurines, an art form she learned from her mother Isaura Aguilar.  Josefina uses red clay to create depictions of everyday village activities, religious and folkloric scenes and famous figures.  Her sculptures are known as Josefinas.

This  sculpture is from of our special and very limited collection of Josefinas, from the ceramic studio of Josefina Aguilar in Oaxaca, Mexico, signed "Josefina Aguilar”.  The talented Miss Josefina passed away in March 2023
