These Byzantine Mosaic Crosses are meticulously handcrafted in Florence, Italy. The art and technique of Byzantine mosaics has remained unchanged since their origins in 5th-century Ravenna, Italy and this intricate craft saw a resurgence in 19th-century Florence. Using a traditional Florentine technique, artisans meticulously cut thin slices of Murano glass and intricately assemble each piece into a unique composition. Each vibrant thread of enameled glass is carefully cut and placed to form distinctive designs. The painstaking creation of Byzantine mosaics is now undertaken by a diminishing number of expert artisans.
