A folk art tradition from Chile and Peru, arpilleras are brightly colored patchwork pictures. Each of these arpilleras is a one of a kind, original piece of art that is a true effort in circular economy. The technique to make an arpillera requires much creativity, attention to detail, and dedication to recycling as each quilt is made of donated and recycled clothes and fabric scraps, sometimes hundreds of tiny pieces. Each fabric scrap is cut just so and hand-stitched into place with extra embroidery to create a three-dimensional work of art. It can take more than a month to make an arpillera artwork which brings joy, happiness, and colorful inspiration to life.
These arpilleras are created under 7R's of Sustainability: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose, Rethink, Reconnect & Reinvest!
